According to CNN, Oil prices are back on the rise. The prices today are still lower than last weeks prices, but that is subject to change here pretty soon. Filling up your tank today, might not be a bad idea. Here’s a look at today’s local gas prices:

In the not so distant past, getting a loan for a mortgage was as easy as opening a bank account, just about anyone could do it! Those days are long gone, there are only two types of mortgage loans left; the loans that are for the people with impeccable credit scores and can afford a large downpayment, and the loans that are backed by the Federal Housing Administration (FHA). The FHA loans haven’t been seen since the 1930’s and weren’t very popular back in the day, however, nowadays they are necessary.
The FHA will insure the mortgage loans owned by the bank with an upfront fee and a monthly premium, however, your credit does not have to be shiny and the down payment can be as low as 3%. The low down payment is the attraction to this type of loan, which is why many are calling the FHA loans the new Subprime Mortgage. Unlike the subprime market, however, employment and income will be verified to ensure that the mortgage can be covered.
In the past, FHA backed loans only covered 3% of the mortgage loans, but today they are controlling 1/3 of the market.

With the economy continually declining, how much can you afford to spend on a new home? This is a question that has entered the minds of every potential homebuyer. Determining your amount of debt in comparison with your amount of income is of course the first thing that should be accounted for, remember to include other savings needs such as a college fund for those with children and your retirement fund for those golden years.
Look for a house that costs around 2 1/2 times your annual income, this is the normal standard of calculation. CNN provides a handy dandy calculator that will help you determine the home price that is within your budget.

On Thursday Night, December 18, 2008, Nanette’s Spirit of the Hand Gallery and Patio Paradise will be hosting an artist reception in Brooksville, Hernando County, Florida.
Frad Mannarino, a contemporary artist from Spring Hill will be displaying his work at the Spirit of the Hand Gallery located at 13157 Cortez Blvd. Patricia Ritter, an impressionistic oil painter also from Spring Hill, will be displaying her work at Patio Paradise located at 7069 Coastal Blvd.
Each reception will last from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., there will be free wine and cheese served at each location. Come on down and show your support for our local artists and maybe pick up that last minute perfect gift!

“Mermaids sing, are ya listening, nativity scenes, water’s glistening, a beautiful sight, we’re happy tonight, walking in a winter waterland!”
The Florida Department of Environmental Protection is inviting the public to Weeki Wachee Springs, Hernando County, Florida for the 2008 Winter Waterland celebration. Two evenings of a whole lotta Christmas fun, including a live nativity scene, story telling bards, and a Santa Express train for the little ones. There will also be three underwater Christmas shows featuring the famous Weeki Wachee Mermaids, each night! After the show, grab a picture with one of the elves, these aren’t just any elves, these are Mermaid Elves!
The fun kicks off at 7:00 p.m. and ends at 10:00 p.m. Friday and Saturday night, December 12th and 13th, 2008. Ticket prices are $6 plus tax for the grown ups and $3 plus tax for the little ones between 6-10, wee ones under 5 and Weeki Wachee Pass Holders are free! Many thanks and gratitude go to the Spring Hill Central Rotary Club for their efforts in finding funding for the first dog park in the area, located off Landover in Spring Hill, Hernando County, Florida. The opening has been planned for the middle of January 2009, and will include 3 separate enclosures depending on the size of your dog. Large dogs in one enclosure, medium to small dogs in another and service animals in the third, for those that choose to leash their dog, there is a dog walk area. Once the park opens, it will be monitored to ensure that the human guests follow the rules, by keeping control of their pets and cleaning up after them.
