Tips for a Less Stressful Move in Hernando and Citrus Counties

Selling your home and moving can be one of the most stressful times in our adult lives! The key to making this a simpler time is to be organized! Have a plan, a sharpie, lots of tape and a garage sale!

The first thing you should do is sort through each room one at a time and have a box for things that you will be moving into the new house, a box for things that you would like to sell or donate and box of things that you wish to throw away or recycle.

Make a diagram of the new home and give each room a number then correspond each box with the same number, that way everything goes into the right place and doesn’t have to be searched through and moved again. An example would be that you label the kitchen with a #1 (here’s where the sharpie comes into play) mark all the boxes that you packed from your old kitchen with a #1, so that all the kitchen boxes automatically go into the new kitchen. Do the same thing with each room in the house.

Nothing is worse than trying to move a box where everything is falling out of the bottom. Double/triple tape all your boxes to ensure that they are strong and sturdy and packed tightly. Be creative while packing your boxes, instead of packing all your towels, blankets, sheets into one box, use them as packing material to protect your valuables. Use your socks to pack your glasses, place one in the glass and one on the outside, this saves on newspaper and space.

These tips aren’t going to make your move completely stress free, but they will help make it less stressful!

Happy moving!

5 Easy Steps for Relocating with Your Pets to Hernando and Citrus County, Florida

Filed under: Citrus County, Florida Relocation, Hernando County — admin @ 6:23 pm

Moving can be a stressful time for the family. When you’re relocating with pets, it can be twice as stressful. Below are some tips to make things a little easier during the move.

Make sure that you visit your regular vet before moving. Your vet should be able to provide you with a certificate that would note your pets health and list all of it’s vaccinations. This will provide the vet that you choose in your new town with all the history that they will need for your pet.

When traveling by car, bring a leash and a collar for your pet, for any potty breaks that they will need on the drive. Have a tag made up to put on your pets collar, that provides the pets name, your name and a phone number where you can be reached. Bring a litter box, litter, scooper and plastic bags for your cat. Try and keep your pets on their normal schedule while traveling. Always keep a First Aid Kit with you in the vehicle.

If bringing a pet carrier or a crate (I highly recommend that you do) be sure that the carrier is big enough for your pet to stand up, turn around and lie down. The crate should be ventilated and have sturdy handles.

If your going to be staying over night somewhere during your travels, double check on the pet policies of where you will be staying. If your going to be traveling by some other means than a car. Be certain that you know all the pet policies that your means of travel enforce.

Have a recent photo taken of your pet, this will make it easier to find, just in case something goes horribly wrong.

Make Moving to Hernando/Citrus County Fl an Adventure for Children

Moving can be tough for children. Change is often a scary thing, not just for adults, but for our little family members too. Children often feel that moving is out of their control and that they were never a part of this big decision. Flip those tables around and ensure them that this adventure will be fun for the whole family!

Be sure to explain to your children what is going on and what to expect on the day that you move. When preparing your children for moving, the sooner you let them know the better. It gives them more time to adjust and less time to worry. Make the experience a positive one and answer any questions that the children have patiently. If they see you being positive then they will be too (monkey see, monkey do). Give them a task list that needs to be completed, one that would not be overwhelming to them. It will make them feel like they are a part of the experience instead of being in the way of progress. Have your children be responsible for their own bedrooms, both while moving and when you get into your new home. Make them aware that they don’t want to unpack their boxes in the new home until all the furniture is in place. No one wants to step over Mouse Trap will carrying a dresser.

If your moving long distances, help your children create an address book so that they can see that they can still keep in touch with their friends. Have your children make a special box just for moving day essentials. Help them decorate the box and make it theirs. Their box should have games, books, pencils and paper to keep them busy on the road, they could include their new address books as well. This box needs to be all about fun!

Make time with them to say good-bye to their favorite places. Have them make a list and mark the days on the calender and which places you’ll visit before the move. It will give them time to say good-bye and prepare them for their new adventures.
